Athens: Closing [:58]
TRANSCRIPT: Having looked at classical Greece, especially Athens, now we can understand the importance of the reforms that went through in the early period of Athenian history that brought about democracy, that rough and tumble of free citizens being able to discourse with each other and being able to understand what it is they wanted and how they would express themselves. We also can see that the beauty of the Acropolis and its importance in expressing the ideal of the Greeks and then seeing these buildings, talk about them, we can see how much impact they really have in the Western world. Everything we look at with government is there. And finally, the difficulty of having a free society that's really based on slavery and having a free society for men, where women are essentially treated as chattel and expected to stay in the house and take care of the home. So interesting things about Athens, but also difficult things to think about to.
